Project: Full turnkey construction of a 1500m2 facility manufacturing consistently high quality product and operating with reduced environmental impact
Customer: Rockcote Enterprises
Industry: Architectural coatings

The customer needed a new manufacturing facility capable of producing absolutely consistent quality product, at a volume of around 40,000 tonnes per year. In line with its commitment to sustainable manufacturing, the facility also needed manufacturing to incorporate radical waste reduction and manufacturing efficiency.  Lacking benchmarks for the construction of environmentally sustainable manufacturing facilities, Brolton Group invested a significant amount of time in examining every aspect of the facility and its production processes.

Brolton’s design centred on a gravity feed system that reduces the plant’s energy requirements. It also incorporated a 2 metre sand pit, through which water is filtered before being re-used. As a result, the facility is water-independent and imposes little waste burden on the environment. he overall outcome is one of Australia’s first successful examples of a sustainable manufacturing facility.

Rockcote’s Managing Director, Bob Cameron comments: “Throughout the project, well-qualified people would tell us each step was ‘impossible’. But Brolton Group would always come back with how it could be done, and how it was going to make the plant more cost-effective.”

“Not having benchmarks for the product was, overall, the biggest part of the challenge, but because Brolton and the team had walked through every part of the design, we knew why and exactly how it was going to work.”
